first_imgAdvocate for coaches in London convicted for employing sex offenderFormer coach operator Sue Reynolds has stepped down from the London Tourist Coach Operators Association (LTCOA) after a conviction for knowingly employing a barred driver.Sue Reynolds will ‘never work in this area again’Mrs Reynolds had employed Dennis Passover between 2010-2015 to drive schoolchildren, despite knowing about his conviction for possessing indecent images of children, a court heard.He had been barred from activity with children since 2008, when he was dismissed from St Albans-based Reynolds Diplomat, but he was later re-employed by the firm.He was arrested in March 2015 on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children. On hearing the police were at the depot, he had abandoned the coach he was driving at Ealing Broadway and tried to run, but was caught later that day in Hastings.An investigation was carried out, and Mrs Reynolds admitted she had employed Mr Passover for many years. She claimed she did not know he was barred from activity with children, and believed his caution was for selling pornographic videos.Mrs Reynolds was found guilty in July, and fined £7,500 at the Old Bailey on Thursday (11 August).Reynolds Diplomat, which Mrs Reynolds started with her husband Richard in 1988, completed its sale to JJ Kavanagh-owned Mullanys UK in January.Mrs Reynolds resigned as a Director of the LTCOA at the time of her conviction in July. She said: “It was important to me that publicity of this situation did not detract from the very important work that the LTCOA and other bodies do to support this industry.”For Mrs Reynolds, Guy Gozem QC told the court: “The defendant will never, ever be able to work in this area again.”last_img read more

first_imgUK-based developer and builder of marine engines Rolls-Royce has signed a contract for the delivery of 12 azimuthing thrusters to Sanmar Shipyard in Turkey, with an option for additional 30 units.The azimuth thrusters from Rolls-Royce will provide propulsion for 6 tugboats, rising to 21 if the option is exercised. Each tugboat has a bollard pull of 60 to 80 metric tons.“This year we delivered our 150th thruster to Sanmar and the announcement of this further contract extends our long standing and continued cooperation,” Helge Gjerde, Rolls-Royce, President Commercial – Marine, said.The contracted thrusters will be delivered during 2016, to be installed on vessels for European and Middle East tug operators. The deliveries from Rolls-Royce include a thruster control system. Thrusters are manufactured at the company’s Rauma site in Finland.last_img read more

first_imgFINLAND: National operator VR has selected Transtech Oy as preferred bidder for a €90m contract to supply 27 double-deck coaches in 2016-17.The order covers a further 10 Edm double-deck sleeping cars and 17 Edo driving cars, similar to vehicles that the Finnish rolling stock manufacturer has previously supplied to VR. The sleeping cars will replace life-expired stock from the 1970s and 1980s on services to Kolari in the far north, and will have air-conditioning, power sockets, free wi-fi, and a toilet and shower in each compartment. The order is the latest step in VR’s €2bn programme to renew its locomotive and rolling stock fleet by the end of this decade. The video entitled Screw Pine was released on social media, a first for the Division. It will also be shown on conventional media such as the television channel of the Government Information Service (GIS) and in particular the Division’s Culture in Action television programme. The video details the process of preparing the screw pine leaves and the making of typical craft items such as hats, belts, table mats, hand bags, letter holders and fans. The production was coordinated by Cultural Officer Carlton Henry and the technical aspects were managed by Cultural Officer Earlson Matthew.Screw Pine is the Cultural Division’s first in a series of videos on various aspects of Dominican culture to be published on social media such as You Tube and Facebook. The documentary can also be viewed on the Division’s Official website, The Division is seeking to make cultural information more readily available to wider audiences especially the young, using the latest information and communication technologies.The general public can look forward to videos on other topics and various activities being carried out by the Cultural Division.
