Timehri mechanic murder Twenty-year- old Rayon Jones, of Fourth Avenue, Bartica, was on Thursday committed to stand trial at the High Court after Magistrate Leron Daly declared a prima facie case was made out against him.Magistrate Daly handed down her ruling in a packed courtroom at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, noting that the prosecution has provided substantial evidence against the defendant that the defence has failed to refute.It is alleged that on June 9, 2016, during the course of a robbery, Jones murdered Puranand Andrew Baljit at Madewini, East Bank Demerara.The court heard that Jones was arrested several times before and appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on break and enter and robbery charges.According to reports, Jones was arrested on June 11, 2016, at the Georgetown seawall by Police after being lured there by his reputed wife.On the night in question, Baljit, 23, was found with several stab wounds about his body, mainly to the chest and shoulder.It was reported that while Jones was under investigation, he admitted to Police ranks that he entered Baljit’s bedroom earlier that night and hid himself until the victim was asleep. He further added that Baljit woke up suddenly and they had a fierce scuffle.Baljit’s father told investigators that on the night of his son’s murder, he heard screams coming from his room. He revealed that he immediately rushed to his son’s bedroom, but the door was locked. He then decided to climb through his son’s bedroom window and discovered the young man lying in a pool of blood. The father stated that his son was then taken by his stepmother to the East Bank Demerara Regional Hospital (commonly known as Diamond hospital), where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
