first_imgSOCCER PNG Football Association, New Guinea Islands representative, Maha Waname has given his backing for the Arawa Football Association to host this year’s NGI leg of the Besta Cup challenge. Waname issued his support by calling on all New Guinea Islands PNGFA affiliates to start preparing for the games which will be held in Arawa, Central Bougainville. “The Arawa Football Association was endorsed during last year’s NGI games in Kimbe and I am now calling on all affiliated associations to prepare to field teams in this year’s games to be hosted in Arawa,” Waname who is also the president of the Kimbe Soccer Association, said. The Arawa Football Association is working in close collaboration with the Bougainville Soccer Federation to come up with a host organising committee to ensure preparations are on track to successfully deliver this major regional event on the soccer calendar. Arawa Football Association patron and former president Augustine Barkson said it was historical for the people of Arawa to host such a regional tournament, especially after the end of the Bougainville Crisis. He said it would not be an easy task to host such an event. He was looking forward to the support and cooperation of all stakeholders, especially sponsors to ensure the successful hosting of the tournament. Barkson, who is also the chairman of the Arawa Urban Community Government, outlined that the tournament would boost the local economy, especially in the town benefitting both the formal and informal sectors. He added that the event would also give an opportunity for the people of Bougainville to witness the level of soccer being played by other centres as well as give an opportunity to for youths to mingle with each other and create unity among Bougainvilleans especially in the lead up to referendum. Bougainville Soccer Federation president, Justin Helele said this was the perfect opportunity for Arawa and other affiliated associations in Bougainville to “taste the NGI level of football.” The winner of this year’s NGI Besta Cup Tournament will represent the NGI at finals in Lae later this year.last_img read more

first_img(Reuters) – Manchester United have endured a difficult Premier League season but sealing third place with a win over Leicester City tomorrow will be further evidence of the team’s potential, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said yesterday. Solskjaer oversaw the Old Trafford club’s worst start to a top-flight campaign in 30 years and faced questions about his suitability for the club’s rebuild but a youthful United have turned things around in the second half of the season.Having gone unbeaten in their last 13 league games, United can secure their highest finish since the 2017-18 season when Jose Mourinho guided them to second place.“Let’s get this game out of the way and get third position and continue the growth and journey this team is on. We’ve had some hard times this season, some setbacks, but we have shown this is a team going places,” Solskjaer told reporters. Solskjaer, whose team last tasted defeat in the competition against Burnley in January, said the addition of playmaker Bruno Fernandes was among the factors in their resurgence.“Many factors, many reasons… belief, if you look at that game against Burnley we should have won that, that’s football and the Premier League,” Solskjaer said.“The belief, confidence, change of atmosphere, Bruno coming in has made a massive difference. We’ve got our best players fit and raring to go… the boys worked hard, the fitness levels, the mental robustness is so much better than last season. “… I’m delighted with how the development looks.”Solskjaer said that their sole focus was picking up three points against fifth-placed Leicester.“… We’ve given ourselves a good chance of Champions League next year but we can’t go in thinking about the outcome, we’ve just got to perform at a high enough level and get a result,” Solskjaer added. “We want to dominate the game… One lapse of concentration can hurt you… this is a journey for this team.”last_img read more

And in the years since, the aspiring sitcom star has instead used his acting skills to become one of the most sought-after guides on Warner Bros.’ popular tours.“I’ve long given up the thought of pushing to become a quote-unquote celebrity or star,” said the 46-year-old North Hollywood bachelor. “I just want to enjoy what I’m doing. I love coming to work.”Part entertainer, part celluloid historian, he is one of 21 Warner Bros. guides, a jovial storyteller during the 2 1/4-hour tour of the historic lot.“He is the walking knowledge of the history for Warner Bros.,” said Ricca’s boss, Danny Kahn. “He really does have that incredible knack to quickly establish an engaging rapport with his guests.”A beefy man with a moustache, facial stubble and close-cropped salt-and-pepper hair, Ricca looks like a cross between the Three Stooges’ Curly and actor Michael Chiklis. Ricca was born and raised in Queens, N.Y. He was shy and withdrawn, especially after his older brother died in a fall down the stairs of their home.“I completely turned off,” said Ricca. “My parents couldn’t do anything to get me happy.”Then his sixth-grade teacher encouraged him to get into acting. He immersed himself in the role of Pig Pen in a play about the cartoon character Charlie Brown, sprinkling talcum powder over his body so he released a cloud of “dust” whenever he moved.“I realized at that point that I really liked performing. I was happy again. So I just kept doing it.”In 1975, he and his family moved to Tempe, Ariz., where Ricca took center stage as his high school mascot – a Fighting Padre. After moving to Southern California, he’s appeared in dozens of plays, a handful of movies and had a run as a stand-up comic.“At this point I thought I’d have a sitcom,” he said. “I would love it just to be involved in something successful that becomes iconic like `Friends.”‘ “If something happens, that’ll be great. If not, I’m still enjoying myself and having a great time.” [email protected](818) 546-3306160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
