first_img“It’s a work in progress in a sense,” Smith said Wednesday. Officials from Rural/Metro Medical Services and Teamsters Local 375 confirmed Wednesday that they hope to return to the bargaining table soon. Rural/Metro is Buffalo’s exclusive provider of ambulance service. It also provides emergency medical services to many neighboring localities, including Niagara Falls, Lockport, Medina and the towns of Cheektowaga, Hamburg and Evans. The company would work with “municipal partners,” nursing homes and local hospitals to try to avoid service disruptions in the event of a strike, Smith added. “That’s the last thing we want,” he said. “We have not sent the company a strike notice, even though we haveauthorization from the union to strike.” Last week, the company’s emergency medical technicians and paramedics overwhelmingly rejected a proposal advanced by a federal mediator. Employees took a strike vote in June, but union President Joseph Sorrento said all parties are hoping a walkout can be avoided. Rural/Metro spokesman Jay Smith said company officials are hopeful the labor dispute can be resolved.center_img “We’re still confident they’re going to work things out,” said Smith. Working conditions have been the main points of contention, said Sorrento. Negotiators haven’t even started to address wages and other economic issues. However, the union and Rural/Metro have come to terms on health insurance coverage. Buffalo officials have been monitoring the labor struggle. First Deputy Mayor Steven M. Casey said Wednesday it’s premature to speculate on what steps might be taken if emergency services workers go on strike, because all parties are hoping to avoid such an action. But he said one option might involve reaching out to other private ambulance companies to help grapple with any gaps in service. If EMTs and paramedics walk off the job, what type of contingency plan does Rural/Metro have in place? BUFFALO, N.Y. — Negotiations are expected to resume next week as bargainers try to avoid a strike by workers who provide ambulance service to many localities in Erie and Niagara counties, including Buffalo.last_img read more

first_imgThe Huffington Post:Robin Williams once said, “The world is open for play.” But how often, in the midst of the daily grind, does it really feel that way? When we measure our lives in to-do lists and devote every moment to being productive, play, of course, falls by the wayside. Living in a culture of busyness, productivity and overwork, we condition our brains to do things in order to get them done; to always achieve, accomplish, finish, check off. Even when we do pursue fun, adventurous experiences, it’s often for the purpose of ticking them off of a bucket list. Our disdain for play, silliness and pure nonsense is even reflected in our vocabulary. “No-nonsense” people, who take themselves and their work seriously — and have no time for activities that don’t further their goals — are celebrated and held up as examples to be followed. But a little nonsense in your day may be a very good thing, not only to boost your mood but also as a way to remind yourself that work (and life) can actually be fun.Read the whole story: The Huffington Post More of our Members in the Media >last_img read more

first_imgThe French striker proved to be one of the main talking points of the January transfer window, with several clubs all vying for his signature. At one point it seemed a move to Inter Milan was all but certain, but the Italians decided to hold back on a deal.By deadline day Giroud was still at Chelsea, who ultimately decided to block his exit as their attempts to find a replacement failed.Embed from Getty ImagesIt left Giroud waiting until the summer for his move, with him set to become a free agent when his deal with Chelsea comes to an end.Like in January, Inter Milan and Lazio will be ready with offers for him according to Gazzetta Dello Sport. The newspaper reports that both clubs remain keen on Giroud and are still dealing with him ahead of a move in the summer.A free transfer is a ‘solution that interests’ Inter, as they would manage to secure a high profile striker that is ‘much appreciated’ by Antonio Conte. They had already reached an agreement with Giroud in early January on a contract until 2022 and are ready to offer that again, and perhaps throw in an option until 2023.Lazio are also trying to lure the Frenchman after deciding to move for the striker yesterday morning.Sports director Igli Tare flew to London and held a summit with Michael Manuello, Giroud’s agent. They also agreed on a deal until 2022 but had to convince Chelsea.Ultimately that never happened but Tare extended his stay in London, returning to Italy in the evening to ‘lay the foundations’ for an agreement with Giroud when he becomes a free agent in June. They are willing to offer the striker €3m per year, presumably until 2022, and rival Inter for his signature once again.by Taboolaby TaboolaSponsored LinksSponsored LinksPromoted LinksPromoted LinksTrending TodayForge of Empires – Free Online GameBuild a City, Trade With Your Neighbors, Play With Your FriendsForge of Empires – Free Online GameUndo聽多多 Hearmore.asia1969年前出生的香港居民現可免費試戴頂尖的歐洲助聽器聽多多 Hearmore.asiaUndoSmart Tech TrendOver 55? first_imgReceiving his first live-game action since injuring his left shoulder in late March, Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy made it through the first game of a minor-league rehab assignment without issue on Monday. The 32-year-old went 2-for-4 with a single and an RBI double in Double-A Bowie’s 8-0 win over Akron. Hardy and infielder Ryan Flaherty began a rehab assignment that could see both return by the weekend if all goes well. Flaherty went 1-for-4 with a double in the seventh inning.Hardy played shortstop and batted third while Flaherty hit second and manned second base. After both players exited the game at the end of seven innings, they reported no physical concerns to reporters, which is good news for an Orioles infield that’s been devastated by injuries at the beginning of the season. Hardy received a cortisone shot in his left shoulder on April 25 after he was continuing to feel slight discomfort at the end of his follow-through when swinging the bat.It remains unclear how many rehab games Hardy will play before he’s deemed ready to be activated by the Orioles. Flaherty is eligible to return from the 15-day disabled list as soon as he becomes eligible to do so on Friday after he was sidelined with a mild groin injury in Toronto two weeks ago.last_img read more
